IBC Appoints new Chief Executive Officer

The Illawarra Business Chamber is pleased to welcome Ms Debra Murphy as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Debra brings over 15 years of senior management and leadership experience to the IBC, in which she has demonstrated advocacy skills, passion for Illawarra business and strong commercial acumen. Debra joins the IBC from Thiess, where she was the Strategic Relations Manager, responsible for driving and enhancing the long-term client focussed agenda and strategic market analysis.

“It is exciting to welcome Debra as our new CEO. Her extensive experience, understanding of business and member organisations will ensure that the IBC goes from strength to strength. She is well known to the Illawarra business community, and is a real asset for the IBC,” said Ms Sue Baker-Finch, President of the IBC.

Debra has experience in working for numerous strategically important local organisations, including BHP Billiton, AiGroup and the previously named, Illawarra Regional Development Board. She also understands the needs of businesses from running her own management consultancy, Biz Voice. Debra was involved in the leadership and co-ordination of i3net, and is a past Board member of the UOW UniCentre, Illawarra Area Consultative Committee and the TAFE Advisory Board.

“Debra’s strong commercial acumen, proven policy advocacy and understanding of the economic and political landscape of the Illawarra will ensure that the IBC continues to deliver positive outcomes for our members.”

Debra will take up her position as the CEO of the IBC on 5 August 2013.
