Grants of up to $20,000 for regional events

Release Date: 13/10/2016

The Illawarra Business Chamber is encouraging community groups across the region to review the NSW Government’s funding program designed to support and encourage regional events.

The Incubator Event Fund offers seed funding for events in Regional NSW to support their first and second years of activity.

Illawarra Business Chamber Executive Director, Chris Lamont, said the Fund provides grants of up to $20,000 to support creation of regional events with applications for Round One of the 2017 Incubator Event Fund open until Sunday 30 October 2016.

“Regional events are often great draw cards for tourist promotion and support local business trade and activity,” said Chris Lamont.

Spring into Corrimal, the largest one day free family festival in regional NSW saw 60,000 people in attendance at the 2016 event.

“Costs associated with venue hire, traffic management and insurances are substantial and assistance from the government in meeting these expenses would be most welcome in establishing a quality regional event,” said Spring Into Corrimal Chairperson, Paul Boultwood.

The Fund offers seed funding for activities that are likely to establish the event as a driver of visitation. Activities for which funding will be offered include, but are not limited to:

 • Venue hire and other costs specific to the event
 • Temporary event infrastructure (marquees, stages etc.)
 • Marketing and promotions
 • Marketing, PR and digital specialist or consultancy fees subject to
 Destination NSW approval of a brief
 • Brand design and development
 • Attendee research

The 2017 Incubator Event Fund is managed by the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. To lodge an application and to view the 2017 Incubator Event Fund’s key criteria visit
