Release Date: 26/08/2016

The Illawarra Business Chamber has welcomed today’s announcement providing $2 million in funding important community infrastructure from the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund. Funding has been allocated to projects aimed at rejuvenating a number of areas in and around Port Kembla as well as providing important community infrastructure.

Illawarra Business Chamber Executive Director, Chris Lamont, said funding under the program was aimed at revitalising community and public infrastructure in and around Port Kembla.

Today’s announcement provides $2 million for 14 community projects across Port Kembla. Funded projects include the Town Centre Façade Project ($300,000), Port Kembla Revitalisation Project ($290,000), Hill 60 Tunnel Safety Access Project ($118,800) and Allan Street Precinct Activation ($133,000).

“These projects will provide real benefit to the community and will be a catalyst for business growth and investment in the area,” said Chris Lamont.

The Port Kembla Community Infrastructure Fund provides $1 million per year from the lease of Port Kembla. Guidelines for the next round of the program are expected to be released in October of this year.

“It is absolutely essential that governments invest in urban community infrastructure. These types of projects provide enduring amenity and make a significant contribution to employment generation and business growth,” said Chris Lamont.
