Business support and opportunities: key focus for IBC Business Marketplace

Release Date: 30/05/2013
The Illawarra Business Chamber (IBC) is proud to present the 2013 IBC Business Marketplace, an event providing a unique opportunity to strengthen and grow business within the region.

“We are excited about the return of the IBC Business Marketplace, which provides businesses with the opportunity to make new business connections, showcase their products and services, and find out more about available support services.” says Mike Halloran, Interim CEO, Illawarra Business Chamber.

The IBC Business Marketplace will be opened by the NSW Small Business Commissioner, Yasmin King, who will officially open the event and take the opportunity to tour the Marketplace to speak with exhibitors prior to the doors opening at 12pm. This provides a fantastic opportunity to hear more about how the Small Business Commissioner can provide businesses with advocacy, dispute resolution and business support services. This is of particular interest following recent legislative backing of the office of the Commissioner earlier this month.

“Yasmin King has been doing an outstanding job as the state’s first Small Business Commissioner and now she has the statutory authority to be an even stronger advocate for small business when dealing with red tape and complaints about government agencies,” said Mr Halloran.

Yasmin King, NSW Small Business Commissioner stated, "I encourage all small business owners to attend this event. When you are running a business you can often be quite isolated from other people in the same position. Networking with others is a terrific way to stay in touch and keep your finger on the pulse".

The IBC Business Marketplace will be packed with many other activities and events, including the Commonwealth Bank Executive Lunch, with speaker Economist, Tom Piotrowski. Tom is a market analyst with Commonwealth Securities and provides commentary on issues influencing local and global markets. Tom will be providing commentary on current macroeconomic conditions and issues of relevance for businesses in the Illawarra. Tickets for this lunch are now on sale.

The IBC Business Marketplace is open to all businesses and those interested in taking part are encouraged to book their booth as soon as possible.

“We have already had strong interest from the regions’ businesses who know how beneficial these events can be. We encourage all businesses to participate and leverage this opportunity the best they can, the earlier businesses book, the more time there is to proactively promote attendance at the event and drive traffic to your booth on the day,” said Mr Halloran.

The IBC Business Marketplace will be held on Tuesday 18 June at the WIN Entertainment Centre. It is open to all businesses and entry on the day is free. For more information about purchasing tickets for the Commonwealth bank Lunch visit or phone 4229 4722
