Matters of imPORTance

Release Date: 22/03/2018
Michael Gallacher is well known in the Hunter Region having served in the O’Farrell government as the Minister for the Hunter and Central Coast. Additionally, as a Member of Parliament, Mike served as the Shadow Minister for Industrial Relations, Ports, Transport, and Police and then as Minister for Police and Emergency Services, and Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council.
Last year, Mike took up the position as CEO of Ports Australia, and now faces a time when there is a sharper focus on planning for and committing to nation building infrastructure at both the Federal and State government levels.
At the same time, there is no shortage of freight and port strategies, often proffered by State governments, which ideally should align to a national framework, if benefits of growth and efficiency are to be realised. In this context, the Port of Newcastle is an important piece in the national ports jigsaw and the views of Ports Australia are important and relevant.
Join us to hear an important perspective and update on these international trade and tourism gateways, including Newcastle.
