Hunter region’s leaders unite

Release Date: 22/07/2019
An unprecedented gathering of the Hunter region’s leaders has thrown support behind a unified voice to advocate for the region as a place to live, visit and invest.

At the launch of the Committee for the Hunter, Chair Richard Anicich AM, said the Committee would provide cross-sector leadership at the regional level, and advocate for priorities to advance the region as a whole.

“There is strong evidence that the cities and regions where leaders collaborate with a shared vision and an agreed set of priorities are attracting major public and private investment,” he said.

“Through the Committee for the Hunter, we provide a unified voice to private and public interests beyond the region. We send a clear signal that we are collaborating on our future, and that we are strategic and united in our approach.”

The University of Newcastle and the Newcastle Airport are the Foundation Patrons of the Committee for the Hunter.

“The University strongly supports a consultative, influential and truly representative group, which is able to offer strong visibility and support within and beyond the Hunter,” University of Newcastle Chancellor, Paul Jeans, said.

Chair of Newcastle Airport, Peter Gesling, said “We believe that a united and representative voice is key to driving prosperity for the region as a whole. Membership of this committee strongly reflects and complements our organisation’s vision of being the airport our region deserves.”
Other Committee for the Hunter members include Compass Housing, the Hunter Business Chamber, the Hunter Medical Research Institute, HunterNet, Hunter Water, Hunter Workers, the Property Council of Australia, Samaritans, and the Urban Development Institute of Australia.

The Committee will appoint a CEO by the end of the year and hold an AGM early in 2020 to appoint a new board.
