Chamber welcomes council support for business

Release Date: 15/04/2020
The Hunter Business Chamber has welcomed further support from local government for business in the region through packages endorsed last night by Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie councils.
Lake Macquarie adopted a suite of measures including rent relief to commercial tenants of its buildings and an extension of the Financial Hardship Assistance Policy to business ratepayers.
Port Stephens will also make hardship assistance more accessible, support increased local procurement and expand e-learning opportunities, among other measures.
“Local government support for business is an important part of the overall coronavirus response,” Mr Hawes said.
“The assistance councils are offering through measures such as rates, fee and rent relief, increased local buying, grants and access to learning and skill-building opportunities complements the packages that the state and federal governments have put in place.
“This gives more businesses a fighting chance of surviving through the pandemic period.”
